With Marcus Rashford enduring a season of poor form on the pitch and apparent lax discipline off it, where better for the forward to seek a fresh start than, er, Paris Saint-Germain? The French champions, aware that they may lose one over-scrutinised wantaway star forward in the summer, want a replacement and it seems Rashford would fit the bill if Kylian Mbappé departs, reports the i. He’d cost PSG’s Qatari owners a fair whack, mind, given that Rashford is under contract at Manchester United until 2028, and that in the summer of 2022 they failed to tempt him away with a £400,000-a-week offer.

A possible Old Trafford incoming is the Atalanta midfielder Ederson. The Brazilian has impressed in Serie A this season, prompting United to make overtures. However, Atalanta don’t want to sell until the summer at the earliest, though the website Goal Brasil reports that Ederson is ready to listen to offers now.

We’re likely to be flooded with rumours about Liverpool players in the coming months, as the book closes on Jürgen Klopp’s reign. Tongues are wagging already over Virgil van Dijk’s future and none other than Real Madrid are keen. The Spanish daily Fichages reckons the Bernebéu hierarchy plan “to go for his immediate signing”. Klopp’s been scoffing at all this, of course, and may yet have a valedictory incoming. Fulham’s Tosin Adarabioyo is out of contract in the summer, at which point Liverpool will be poised to swoop for the 26-year-old defender.

Tottenham may have done their January business earlier than most but that hasn’t stopped them being linked with Dominic Solanke. The in-form Bournemouth striker has already been the subject of rebuffed approaches from Newcastle and West Ham but the Sun reckons Spurs are preparing an audacious, and expensive, deadline swoop. Meanwhile the Tottenham midfielder Bryan Gil could be off to Brighton on loan. Talks have reportedly begun between the clubs over the 22-year-old.

Gio Reyna has been a late breaking hit of this January’s rumour-fest, and it would appear he is moving ever closer to a deal with Nottingham Forest. Fiorentina have also shown interest but it seems the lure of the mist rolling in from the Trent has won out and the American will join the Premier League side on loan until the end of the season, with Forest having an option to buy for €15m-20m (£13m-£17m). Given their financial issues, Forest’s ability to exercise that option may be up in the air. Heading out of the City Ground, meanwhile, might be Orel Mangala, with Lyon eager to seal a £30m deal for the midfielder.

Bayern Munich are reportedly close to rounding off a busy window with the signing of the 22-year-old Spanish winger Bryan Zaragoza from Granada, who in their turn want to bring in Facundo Pellistri on loan from Manchester United.

Marseille offer Jonathan Clauss to West Ham

Olympique de Marseille have called Jonathan Clauss’ (31) commitment to the club into question. Les Phocéens are open to a departure before the closure of the transfer window, and according to L’Équipe, the France international has now been offered to West Ham United, through intermediaries.

An undisputed starter under Gennaro Gattuso, Clauss has enjoyed a strong season with Marseille, which has not only consolidated his position as a key player at the club but also seen him earn back his position in the France squad ahead of EURO 2024.

Clauss offered to West Ham and Galatasaray

Clauss came off injured against AS Monaco in tears. Marseille feared the worst for their right-back, but tests have failed to show any issues. Foot Mercato report that this incident has led OM’s hierarchy to question Clauss’ commitment. Les Phocéens reportedly believe that their right-back is more concerned about his place in the France squad at EURO 2024 than about the trajectory of the struggling club.

According to L’Équipe, Clauss did not train with Marseille on Tuesday, with the club exploring the possibility of selling the defender. OM are leaning on intermediaries, who have offered Clauss to Galatasaray, who are looking for a replacement for Sacha Boey, and West Ham. Meanwhile, independently of the club’s attempts to sell Clauss, Les Phocéens are looking to sign another right-back. Stade Rennais’ Lorenz Assignon (23) has emerged as a key target, however, the player’s €10m valuation has thus far proved dissuasive.

Fabrizio Romano says West Ham are doing all they can to sign ‘outstanding’ player

Fabrizio Romano has said West Ham are doing all they can to sign Jota from Al-Ittihad, with a deal heading into the final stages.

The Portuguese winger has been subject to some serious interest from West Ham this month, with Jota expected to return to Europe just six months after moving to Saudi Arabia.

Lauded by former Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou as an ‘outstanding’ player, Jota could be quite the addition for the Irons if they can get a deal over the line in time with Al-Ittihad.

And according to Romano, that’s exactly what the Hammers are doing, with West Ham eager to sign Jota having already added Kalvin Phillips to their ranks this January.

Romano said: “I will say that they are really working on the Jota deal. The player is open to making the deal happen because he would like to try this opportunity in a different league with West Ham.

“Also, Al-Ittihad are quite open to finding the formula for the deal with West Ham. The point is about salary. It’s about taxes. This is why it’s taking some time to find the best way between all parties involved.”

Jota could be one of West Ham’s best signings in recent memory

Jota showed at Celtic that he is quite the player when given the right role in the right system, with the former Benfica wonderkid becoming a cult hero in Glasgow after just two seasons.

And for West Ham, Jota could have the same effect if the Portuguese attacker buckles down in east London and gets to work the second he returns to the United Kingdom from Saudi Arabia.

The forward himself will be the first to admit that a move to the Middle East was ill-timed, yet Jota has the quality and time on his hands to make up for his earlier mistake.

Indeed, Jota could thrive at West Ham under David Moyes, and West Ham fans should get excited if a deal can be reached soon with Al-Ittihad for the attacker.
